2006 NASAR Conference
GHSD members attends NASAR
conference
The National Association of Search
and Rescue annual conference was held 24-27 May 2006 in
Austin, TX at the beautiful Renaissance Hotel. Four
members of GHSD attended the conference, either as
presenters or attendees. This conference has grown so
much over the years that there are eight different
sections simultaneously presenting information to their
interested peers. From water to homeland security and
medical to canine, there is a plethora of information
for every aspect of SAR.
Since we use canines for SAR, our
members attended the K9 section for the conference. Many
fabulous topics, such as ethics, motivation, water
theory, and behavior, were presented by great teachers
and handlers. Each member learned something and was able
to network with other K9 handlers across the country.
This was a great experience, for three of us it was our
first conference, and hopefully ideas brought back can
be implemented into trainings to better our search dogs,
handlers, and support personnel.
